Thoughts of Thankfulness

Happy Thanksgiving!

Logically, today’s post is about thankfulness.

{ The Lord has brought to my attention the lack of thankfulness I bring before Him in prayer. It’s so easy to get caught up in the requests we ask of Him and forget about thanking Him. But as I look around at my life, I have an unbelievable amount of blessings to be thankful for. So today I’m going to share with you some thoughts on the importance of thankfulness. }

Why is thankfulness so important? The answer is actually quite simple. 1 Chronicles 16:34 describes the importance, this verse says, “Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good!”

In 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, Paul told the church to “be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” and while this looks like three different actions, could they be tied together? I believe they can and are.

If we pray continually, we should be continually thanking God. Why? Well, Philippians 4:6 says that thanksgiving is a part of prayer. In fact, this verse says that when you present a request to God, thanksgiving is a part of that request.

By lifting up thankfulness with our prayer requests, it helps us to focus not only on what we’re asking for, but also on what we already have. By focussing our thoughts on thankfulness, we will be joyful.

So yes, they all tie together to form a beautiful picture of satisfaction found in Christ!

This season especially, remember to thank Him. Don’t just ask of Him, thank Him for everything He’s already given you. Look around, we have so much to be thankful for. (If you feel like you have nothing to thank Him for, the breath you just breathed is from Him.)

I encourage you to carry around an attitude of thankfulness, not only today, but every day. The more of a habit thankfulness becomes, the more joyful we will be.
