His Love Never Fails

“Your love never fails, it never gives up, it never runs out on me.” -One Thing Remains

I have heard the words to this song over and over again for years. And I have always loved listening to this song. Yet today, as I was sitting at my dining room table, catching up on homework, these words came to life.

How marvelous it is that God’s love NEVER fails. Have you ever just taken the time to dwell on the magnificence behind God’s love? It never ceases to overflow into our lives. His love never gives up on us, even when we give up on ourselves. And isn’t that such a beautiful testimony of who our Savior is?

So I sat in my dining room and listened to these words. I turned the volume up and really listened. And as I sat there, I fell on my knees in awe of my God. I realized that His love is not dependent on my circumstances or even on my love for Him. Although I “knew” this, in that moment, I became overwhelmed because of the beauty behind His unfathomable love for each and every individual. His love for me has existed since the beginning of time and will exist for eternity.

I sat there, wondering, “How am I deserving of such perfect love?” The simple answer is: I’m not. Never in my life have I been able to earn His love. And I never will be able to. I can work as hard as I want to reach perfection, to be worthy of His love, but I will never reach a point where I deserve God’s love. That is why Christ came. He took our imperfection and our sinfulness to the cross. He died, bearing the weight of our guilt, but He rose again in victory, and covers us with His righteousness, with His perfection.

And the love that He lavishes upon us will never fail, it will never give up, it will never run out. Remember that.

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. -1 John 3:1 (NIV)
