His Great Love

I am beginning to see the how much deeper the depth of God’s love for us really is. For as long as I can remember, I have known about Jesus, but last year, my eyes were opened to really begin to know Jesus. I honestly had no idea of how great His love really is. But then one of my sweet friends helped open my eyes with a verse found in 1 John.

How great is the love the Father has LAVISHED on us, that we should be called children of God! (1 John 3:1a)
I have read this verse numerous times, but when I dug deeper into the word lavished, it gave so much more power to these words. This word means to bestow upon and give in great amounts without limit. So what this verse is saying is that God has bestowed His love upon us in great amounts; amounts that are humanly impossible to understand. That is why we will always have a certain emptiness without Him, because we were created with the desire for this great love of His.

No one can ever love us as much as Christ does. He came to die for us while we were still sinners. And this is love. It is not love because we loved Him and repented of our sins first, but because He loved us while we were still sinners and came to provide the freedom from sin.

Today, I challenge you to focus on His love, not on your problems. When you keep your mind on Him, your burdens become lighter, for His yoke is easy and His burden is light (Matthew 11:30). Open the Word and get to know who God really is. Don’t just know Him for who other people say He is, know Him from who He says He is.
I am so thankful that God is opening my eyes and drawing me closer to Him everyday. I pray for everyone reading this that they may see the riches of His love.
But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness (Psalm 85:16).
